dead emcees scrolls

so I think I am going to try to make this place a little more spiffy by adding some pictures to my posts. Well I say that now, let's see how long it lasts.

anywho. here's my review of saul william's new poetry collection Dead Emcee Scrolls. I do warn the review is a little weird: it's part interview and I included a rather large excerpt, but i just liked the excerpt too much not to. i'm still happy with the review despite it's strangeness.

cop his new book. the poem NGH WHT, which is about fifty pages is mean.

Ah. Have they done all his books since "She?"

We'll have to discuss your views on them as an imprint someday. I'm curious.

Don't you think they'd be a great publisher for a comprehensive Jay Dee biography?

hmm. i would think they would say a biography on Jay Dee wouldn't be a big enough book. but that is me putting words in their mouth. That's sad about his passing.

I've really been trying to follow The Detroit Free Press' coverage of his death and they wrote the *saddest* story, detailing his last days. His mother was interviewed.

Maybe a smaller press would publish a bio. (I'm always thinking something'll make a good book.)

He was incredibly prolific for a 32-year-old--and oddly, i think there'd be a larger market for it than potential publishers might believe. It would probably have to be a weird pictorial kind of venture--kind of like the voletta wallace book.

But then again... that would really be a niche target audience....

i will def. check this book out. i've been a Saul Williams fan for the longest. "Ohm" opened a lot of eyes to him and the spoken word movement.

i've been seeing his commercial on MTV, which is a pleasant surprise. i hope he does well w/ book sales. give us poets some hope!

and as far as Dilla...i, too, am not sure if we have enough info on his life to publish a book. however, he did leave us with a whole catalog of good music. maybe a mixtape is in order?
