NYT Bestsellers

NYT bestsellers: Terry has debuted at #2 and Confessions of a Video Vixen (who has been on the least for four weeks now) is at number 5.

Look out for my book: Confessions of a Broke Chick with Lofty Goals Who Is Looking For a Hustle As Good As Superhead’s But Not As Degrading

Am I hating?

Well, you may be hating a LITTLE bit. I know how frustrating it is to see what's popular. I really do. But let us not begrudge Terry Mac and Karrine their success. Afterall, what a coup it is that black folks are on the NYT list at all. And wasn't Bebe on a couple of weeks ago?

And I have read the Video Vixen book. It's more interesting that it seems to be. I think it bears some scary parallels to the slave narrative, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl.

But I don't mean to ignore your real point which is that "light" work is always more popular. You're right it. It is. But the "serious" books are the ones that endure.

I definitely do not begrudge Ms. McMillan she has earned her spot.

But Ms. Videovixen, not sure about that.

That is an interesting parallel you made to Incidents. Of course the tragedy is why she felt she had to do the things she did and she says she is trying to help young girls. However booksellers, bookbuyers need dirt, gossip and I wonder how much of the message really gets across?

Having listen to the audiobook, I agree with you, Felicia. While the ultimate tragedy are the circumstances that shaped the choices that Karrine made, I think the cautionary message is lost when delivered like this. I really do not see the young Karrines in the making reading the book and choosing another path. More on that on my own blog in the near future.
