MAN on MED
time flies, geez. I didn't realize it had been so long since I blogged.
Anyway here is an interview by Mark Anthony Neal (one of my favorite thinkers) on Michael Eric Dyson. I haven't read MED's book yet, so I really don't have any comments. I do know in terms of marketing the book title is freakin brilliant (as proved by the book's bestseller status). Geez he turned that book out fast, it seemed like just yesterday Cosby was blasting folks.
The interview is on AOL BlackVoices. http://bv.channel.aol.com/edumain/edumain_canvas/edart?id=20050614155709990001

I thought you may find this article on Bill Cosby gives a more
complete analysis
http://popmatters.com/columns/reynolds/050606.shtml
Moreover, I must admit I found the thoughts expressed in the interview
a little "mean spirited" about Bill and the Black Middleclasses in general. Its seems almost too easy to near pathologise/impune their motives in the way that was done here. I accept no one is perfect, but I usually need a little more justification to cast such a harsh judgment an entire class of people.
I underline the fact that my view is based only on what was presented in the interview. I will try to get hold of the book to understand Micheal Eric Dyson better and look up other reviews on the book on the net.
I think the article I provided a link for above gives a more useful analysis even if one disagrees with its conclusions. And to me it seems a little more generous to everyone all round.
Finally I must admit I am not from the States so that may bais my views or I may be missing and/or misinterpreting some of the things said.

I apologise, I have just re-read
Mark Reynolds article and now realise he is reviewing the same book favourably.
As I said I am not from the States
and I read Mark's article a few weeks ago.
Thanks for the article link. I'll have to check it out.
